RF microneedling before and after

While the skincare products that people use at home can have some effect if applied consistently, the fastest and most effective way to get skincare results, such as reducing wrinkles and fine lines, is to get a cosmetic procedure from a qualified professional.

Today, there are many different types of cosmetic procedures. This does not mean plastic surgery or a facelift. Many safe and effective modern procedures are minimally or non-invasive, which means that by definition they are not surgeries either.

This guide will look at one recently developed procedure, radiofrequency microneedling, otherwise known as RF microneedling. It will explain what it is, what it can do, and how safe it is.

What is RF Microneedling?

RF microneedling uses very tiny needles and radiofrequency waves to stimulate the growth of new skin cells which are healthier than the old ones they are replacing. Now, both of those things can sound scary, but there is really no cause for concern.

Many cosmetic procedures work by causing tiny amounts of damage to our skin cells. This is in no way painful or perceptible. The reason they damage the cells is because our bodies produce more of the protein collagen in response. Collagen makes skin smooth, firm, plump, and moist, and together these qualities make us look youthful.

In RF microneedling, both the needles and the waves cause the cellular damage required to stimulate the collagen response.

What can it treat?

It can treat a number of common skin concerns, including wrinkles, fine lines, scars, sagging skin, cellulite, and stretch marks.

It is a cosmetic procedure and not a medical one, so it does not treat skin infections or conditions such as psoriasis.

What happens during the procedure?

RF microneedling is one of the fastest cosmetic procedures, taking only 10-20 minutes after the initial preparation.

The first step will be having your skin cleaned with alcohol to protect against infection, then a local anaesthetic will be applied about an hour before.

Then, the microneedling device will be used. It is a handheld device about the size of a flashlight, and the tiny needles will make microscopic wounds in the surface of your skin while the radiofrequency waves are released simultaneously.

Finally, growth and soothing solutions are applied to your skin to help your cells regenerate and avoid any discomfort. After the procedure, you can just go about your normal daily activities.

When will I see the results?

While the procedure is fast, you will likely need four or more sessions. These take place about three to eight weeks apart so that your skin can heal in between. The results start to show between three and six months after the treatment, and they last for around a year.

Is it safe?

Most people experience no problems, but cosmetic procedures always result in side effects for some people. For RF microneedling, these have included dryness, redness, itching, swelling, and breakouts of acne and cold sores.

RF Microneedling is an effective, minimally invasive method of rejuvenating the skin that is safe for most people. If you choose to try it, it is best to find a qualified and reputable cosmetic surgeon to make sure safety protocols are followed and to get the best results.
